From Trial Spinning to Final Approval: CNG Type 3 Equipment Ready for India

A machine can look impressive on paper, but for a CNG Type 3 cylinder manufacturer, the real question is much simpler:

Can it consistently form the aluminum liner according to the required geometry?

That was the focus of a recent factory acceptance test at Wuxi Hansheng Pressure Vessel Industrial Co., Ltd., where an Indian customer inspected the CNG Type 3 aluminum liner spinning machine purchased for their new production project.

Instead of evaluating the machine only through drawings and technical parameters, the customer checked the actual forming process and examined the spun aluminum liner samples directly.

After trial production, dimensional inspection and technical confirmation, the machine successfully completed the acceptance process and is now being prepared for shipment to India.

Why the Spinning Process Matters for CNG Type 3 Cylinders

A CNG Type 3 cylinder uses a metal liner, normally aluminum alloy, as the internal gas-tight layer, with composite material wound around the liner to provide structural strength.

Because the aluminum liner becomes the foundation for the following manufacturing processes, its shape must be controlled carefully.

The spinning stage forms critical areas such as the liner ends and neck section. If the profile, material flow or dimensions are unstable at this stage, later operations such as neck machining, thread processing and composite winding may also be affected.

For this reason, the customer paid particular attention to the actual aluminum forming result during the factory test.

Watching the Aluminum Liner Take Shape

During the trial, the aluminum workpiece was mounted on the spinning machine and rotated under controlled conditions.

The forming area was heated while the spinning system gradually shaped the aluminum material.

Unlike simple machining, spinning requires several actions to work together continuously. The rotation of the workpiece, heating position, material temperature, tool movement and forming pressure all influence the final result.

For CNG Type 3 aluminum liners, this coordination is particularly important because the process must create the required profile while maintaining stable material distribution.

The acceptance test therefore focused not only on whether the machine could run, but on whether it could produce a liner that met the customer’s actual production requirements.

The Customer Checked the Formed Liner, Not Just the Machine

One of the most important moments during the acceptance process came after spinning.

The finished aluminum liner samples were removed and inspected directly by the customer and our engineering team.

As shown in the photos, dimensional measurements were taken on the formed section to verify the result of the spinning process.

The evaluation included several practical points:

This type of inspection gives the customer much more useful information than simply watching the machine operate without examining the finished workpiece.

For CNG Type 3 cylinder production, the quality of the formed aluminum liner is ultimately the most important reference.

Controlled Heating Supports Stable Aluminum Forming

The heating process was another important part of the trial.

During spinning, the aluminum material must reach a suitable forming condition before the tool progressively changes its shape.

The photos clearly show the flame heating system working close to the forming area while the aluminum liner rotates.

The purpose is not simply to heat the workpiece. The heating position and forming movement must follow the process together.

If heat input is not properly coordinated with the spinning operation, material deformation may become unstable. Therefore, our engineers adjusted the process according to the aluminum liner specifications and the required final shape.

This combination of rotation, controlled heating and progressive spinning forms the core of the CNG Type 3 aluminum liner forming process.

Acceptance Based on the Customer’s Actual CNG Type 3 Product

Every CNG Type 3 cylinder project has its own liner dimensions and design requirements.

Therefore, Wuxi Hansheng Pressure Vessel Industrial Co., Ltd. develops the spinning solution around the customer’s actual product rather than applying one fixed machine configuration to every project.

For a new project, our engineers normally study information such as:

These parameters determine the machine configuration as well as the spinning process.

For this Indian project, the factory test provided a final opportunity to verify that the equipment and forming process matched the customer’s intended CNG Type 3 aluminum liner production.

More Than a Machine Test — A Process Confirmation

The value of factory acceptance lies in confirming the manufacturing process before the equipment is shipped overseas.

During this project, the Indian customer could see the aluminum liner forming process in real time, inspect the finished samples and discuss technical details directly with our engineers.

This made it possible to confirm important process points before installation at the customer’s plant.

For overseas equipment projects, this step can reduce unnecessary adjustments after delivery and help the customer move more efficiently toward production.

Ready for Shipment to India

With the spinning trial completed and the formed aluminum liner approved, the CNG Type 3 aluminum liner spinning machine has passed its factory acceptance stage.

The next step is shipment preparation.

After packing and transportation, the equipment will be installed at the customer’s facility in India, where it will be used specifically for CNG Type 3 cylinder aluminum liner production.

For Wuxi Hansheng Pressure Vessel Industrial Co., Ltd., this project is another example of turning a customer’s cylinder design into a practical forming solution through machine design, process development and factory testing.
